Team

Roots and Wings – Early Childhood Education centre is initiated by a mother and daughter duo from Mumbai – Mrs. Swati Shingte and Ms. Isha Shingte.

Mrs. Swati Shingte (B.A. Econ) is a trained pre-school teacher who has been in the education sector for 16 years. She has worked with various English medium schools under ICSE and CBSE boards in Mumbai and Pune. She is trained for Language Development, Creative Enhancement in young children, dealing with Learning Disabilities and ensuring Safety in schools.

Over the years she experienced different curriculum and learning methods for Kindergarten and conventional preschools but her dissatisfaction with these teaching methods remained. She envisions an ideal school as one that keeps a child’s innate curiosity intact and teaches without inducing inhibitions. Roots and Wings is her realisation of this dream.

She loves gardening, story-telling, and taking up artistic and creative projects.

Ms. Isha Shingte (B.Sc. Agri, MBA) is an MBA gold medalist who graduated from MANAGE, Hyderabad. She had a brief managerial stint at Coromandel International in Supply Chain and Marketing.

However, she decided to quit her corporate career to pursue a deep rooted love for teaching. She strongly believes that children are transformed not by gaining knowledge or facts but by developing a passion for learning itself. Through Roots and Wings, she wishes to empower young minds to celebrate their individuality and reach for their highest potential.

She loves trekking, dancing and playing with her pets and like her mother she is an avid reader.

As both the founder and a teacher at Roots and Wings, she brings to the table an organized working style, a never ending quest for quality, a nurturing heart and a cheerful smile!

Our Guiding Principles

Roots stand for Integrity and Strength.

Wings stand for Growth and Joy.

And both are given to the child through Love

Why Early Childhood Education?

Did you know that Early Childhood is the most rapid period of development in a human being’s life? The years from conception through birth to eight years of age are critical to the complete and healthy cognitive, emotional and physical growth of children.

Research proves that Early Education is critical because:

  • Brain development is most rapid in the early years
  • 75% of neural connectivity is complete by the age of 7
  • When the quality of stimulation is deficient, child development is seriously affected.

It is largely seen that the personality constructs that are initially set during early childhood usually stay with the individual even in his/her later life - until the person faces a life-changing event. It could be in the form of a change in environment, a near-death experience, a sudden realization, or a big shock. There are also scores of research studies that suggest that early years play a significantly disproportionate role in shaping up a child's attitudes, personality, success and happiness in life.

When a child knows what he wants to do next and able to do it, he/she is the happiest. Out of this joy, comes self confidence & willingness to work. If such a child is equipped with the right tools, there is no stopping his way to excellence. Hence it is important to expose the child to a structured environment which will provide adequate and appropriate stimulus for learning.

Teaching Methodology

The Environment

For a child below 6, curriculum comprises the environment which in turn means that which we offer the child to learn. It is essential that a young child gets daily experience with learning aids which have specific usage, derived from the curriculum. All areas of work for the child, both internal and external have been planned with extreme care to facilitate self learning, and implement the objectives set in the curriculum.

What will my Child do?

Everything done at Roots and Wings has been intrinsically designed to set a child up for success. Children are given Lessons with materials from choosing activities they would like to work with. They can repeat and explore them as they desire. At the same time they are closely observed by teachers who gently encourage children to master the activity.
